Après-coup proposes a narrative realised through the disassembly and reconfiguration of a particular kind of cinematic vocabulary drawn from the psychological thriller and horror genres from the 40’s through to the 80’s.
The hypnotic device perpetually swings back and forth driven by a concealed electromagnet. The object was designed to have the visual language of a scientific or medical device whose specific purpose is not clear. The polygraph machine was modified to work as a phantom. The needles approximate varying degrees of unease as if the machine is connected to a person not present.
